OsmosisMD works in equilibrium with the epidermis whilst focusing on the dermis layer.
It does so by using a new technology, using phosphatidylcholine liposomes (found naturally on the skin cell membranes), to increase the penetration of nutrients by up to 1000%. By doing so, OsmosisMD range has the ability to penetrate into the deeper dermis layer without harming the surface layer.
Chronic exfoliation ages the skin
The body makes several layers of stratum corneum using keratin filled cells called corneocytes that we refer to as dead cells. It has been commonly thought that their existence is a mistake and therefore we follow the traditional belief that the skin needs exfoliation. The top epidermal layers are critical to skin protection and do not need to be exfoliated.
Everyday the skin is bombarded with nutritional demands and free radicals from diet, stress and the sun. When we are young, our dermal blood supply (which also feeds the epidermis) keeps up with the workload. As we get older, the amount of blood supply declines which forces the skin to make some tough choices. The dermis thins about 1% per year and yet it will not let the epidermis thin at all (due to risk of infection/death) so it slows the turnover rate in response to the lack of nutritional support
Most skincare lines address the slowdown by damaging the epidermis (exfoliation) which compromises the health of the skin and forces the dermis to divert limited resources to fix the barrier as soon as possible. This means that the very thing that caused dermal thinning, nutritional/antioxidant deficiencies is being made worse by new demands we are placing on the skin as a result of epidermal damage. Therefore the long-term result of chronic exfoliation is greater starvation that leads to more rapid dermal thinning and ageing skin. OsmosisMD delivers ingredients to the dermis and restores the epidermal barrier so that the skin is healthier, more efficient and actively restoring itself.
So what should you look for in a skin care range?
The most beneficial ingredients should do one of three things:
- increase circulation (the skin’s only source of food/nutrients/immune cells/building block materials),
- stimulate fibroblast activity (the only way to make collagen, elastin, GAG’s needed to rebuild/repair the skin),
- provide antioxidants to help neutralize the 24hr a day attack on our cells from free radicals.
The idea behind OsmosisMD is that it works with the skin adding antioxidants, retinaldehyde which the skin uses to rebuild itself (a potent stimulator of fibroblasts) without creating more damage and increases the circulation because the more circulation in an area, the more benefits and remodelling occur.
Key points:
- Phosphatidycholine liposomes increase absorption by 1000% into skin as cell walls are made of phosphatidycholine.
- Phosphatidycholine normalises acne by restoring epidermal barrier thereby reducing acne by 70%, instead of wounding the skin with acids.
- The retinaldehyde use is a proven antibacterial only in the retinaldehyde spectrum. Retinol is not antibacterial.
- Retinaldehyde also rebuilds the dermis and rebuilds scar tissue.
- 1,3 Beta Glucan remodels scar tissue during early scar phases of wound healing process therefore minimising long term scar effects. Increased macrophage activity effects scar tissue and foreign debris.
- Ageing skin is a result of starvation so we need to increase nutrition by blood stimulation.
