What skin types are suitable for skin needling?

The SkinPen® can be used on both men and women of all skin types , from really fair to dark skins. Microneedling treatments are suitable acne scarring and fine lines. They are also beneficial for people wanting to improve skin tightness and texture.

The treatment is not suitable for people with wounds, sun-burnt skin, open cuts or for those who are pregnant or breast feeding.

What are the risks of skin needling?

The skin is not ablated or removed in this procedure so scarring is extremely rare. Some people develop milia (small white dots) on the skin as it heals. Temporary acne-breakouts may also occur.

The face, hands, neck, back and chest can all be treated with skin needling. Skin needling is suitable for all skin types and as compared to light based treatment of skin, there is also less chance of pigmentation problems after skin needling has been performed.

What downtime is there with Dermal/ Skin Microneedling?

After your in clinic treatment, there is often significant redness on the day of the treatment. The next day, there can be some residual redness of the skin; however, this can usually be well camouflaged with make-up. The skin may feel warm for a day or two and may also feel a bit rough. Bruising is unusual but may occur in some individuals. Usually people resume their normal activities the day after their procedure.

What results will I get with CIT or Skin microneedling?

In the short-term, there is softening and a subtle fresh look to the skin; however, the real results may take at least three months to take effect. The natural regeneration process takes up to 6 weeks to fully develop but the results are well worth waiting for. The regeneration will continue for approximately a year after treatment. For optimal results a course or series of treatments may be required depending on your skin. The skin takes on a new vitality post-treatment, looking brighter, firmer, smoother and clearer.

Our treatments begin with the application of local anaesthetic cream moved (numbing cream) to the area to be treated for 30 minutes.

After thorough cleansing, the SkinPen® is over the skin multiple times to induce the thousands of microscopic injuries to the skin, this is the longest part of the procedure.

Once the skin needling has taken place, topical retinoids or other medical grade skin care can be added to skin to further enhance the effects of skin needling and collagen production. A peptide mask is then applied to the skin.
