After care following wrinkle relaxer treatment
Is there anything I should not do after wrinkle relaxer injections?
Botox® and Xeomin® are relatively safe, quick treatments that have very little impact on your usual activity after the treatment. The following precautions are suggested to allow optimal results with minimal side effects:
- Remain upright for 4 hours — no lying flat on your front or doing headstands
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment
- No facials or massaging of the injected area for 5 days after treatment
- Avoid excessive alcohol or medically necessary blood thinning medication before the treatment to prevent bruising.
Are there any possible side effects to wrinkle relaxer treatments?
In most cases there will be no side effects to a treatment. However occasionally a small number of people experience side effects which are mild, and transient in nature.
- Bruising — Pin prick bruises may occur at the injection sites
- Bumps — A few minutes after treatment small bumps may be visible on the skin which disappear very quickly
- Local muscle weakness including droopy eyelids
- Headaches — this is usually temporary and responds to simple painkillers
- Flu-like symptoms — very rarely.
When can I go back to my normal exercise regime?
Following wrinkle relaxer treatments, normal daily activity can be resumed immediately.
It is recommended that light exercise can be commenced after 4 hours including:
- Brisk walking
- Upright yoga – Its best to avoid any upside down activities
Strenuous exercise is best delayed for a minimum of 24 hours and include:
- Gym workouts
- Power lifting
- Long distance running
How soon can I drink alcohol after wrinkle relaxer injections?
Alcohol can thin the blood and increase the risk bruising, so we recommend limiting your intake to a celebratory glass in the first 24 hours.
Am I allowed to touch my face after having wrinkle relaxer injections?
Yes, you certainly can and your face should not feel overly sore or tender. You can still wash your face and continue with your normal skin care regimen. It is best to avoid rubbing or massaging your face for up to 4 hours after your treatment.
Can I wear make-up after my wrinkle relaxer treatment?
Yes. We use mineral make-up immediately after the treatment to reduce redness with clean brushes to avoid the risk of infection. You can generally apply you own make up 1 hour after the treatment. It is recommended that you do not apply too much pressure during application, to ensure that the wrinkle relaxer does not disperse from the treated area.

Yes. Wrinkle relaxer treatments are not affected by changes in altitude or cabin pressure, so flying will have no adverse effects.
Can I sleep after wrinkle relaxer treatment?
Wrinkle relaxer injections consist of a safe, naturally purified protein. Treatment has little impact on usual day-to-day activity and will not affect your sleeping patterns. You should avoid putting pressure on the injected area or laying on your front for around four hours to allow the treatment area to settle.
How soon after wrinkle relaxer treatment can I have a facial?
We recommend avoiding facials or facial massages for 5 days to reduce the risk of spreading the wrinkle relaxer to the surrounding muscles with resulting side effects e.g. eyelid droop.
